What are the basic requirements for conducting EDI?
Do you know what hardware and tools are required to implement EDI? It may be simpler than you had imagined.

  EDI Requirements header
To receive or send electronic transactions, you will need the following equipment and software capabilities:
  • A computer--mainframe, middleware or PC.
  • Translation software to format your business elements into the ANSI X12 standard formats for transmission or interpretation.
  • Communications hardware--a modem and telephone line.
  • Communications software to handle sending and receiving data.
  • [OPTIONAL] A Value Added Network (VAN) to handle the last two communications items above.
  • [OPTIONAL] An FTP server or access to an FTP Server and Encryption Software to handle Direct Connect communications (which would replace the traditional VAN setup). This option would be a solution for our higher-volume customers.
